Sarah qualified as a mental health nurse in 1991. She worked clinically for about 25 years in community services in Manchester, before moving into higher education and research via an MHSc in public health and health promotion at the University of Manchester. In 2009 she completed a PhD that explored the use of schools-based guided self-help to promote young people’s emotional wellbeing. She has been involved at all levels of health education in universities around the north west of the UK, including supervising and examining PhD candidates.
Sarah joined the University of Leeds in 2019 to work on a range of NIHR and MRC funded mental health research projects, most recently focusing on participatory methodologies within patient safety research.
She is interested in developing and applying approaches to understanding patient priorities and promoting person-centred care. She was very pleased to join the Patient Centred Outcomes Group in 2025 to contribute to the STA:RTUPP project.
