Jess is a Medical Oncology Registrar, and is currently Out Of Programme completing an NIHR-funded Doctoral Research Fellowship. Jess’s PhD involves leading the FRAME study (frailty-informed cancer management; https://fundingawards.nihr.ac.uk/award/NIHR302560) which looks at integrating frailty assessment within specialist cancer services to support shared treatment decision-making for those with advanced cancer. Jess commenced her PhD in October 2022 and is supervised by Dr Alex Gilbert and Prof Galina Velikova from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research (PCOR) group, as well as Prof Suzanne Richards and Prof Andrew) Clegg.
Jess graduated from Hull York Medical School in 2014, and followed a seamless track of NIHR-funded clinical academic training prior to starting her PhD. She undertook the Academic Foundation Programme in Medical Education (Hull York Medical School, 2016), at which time she completed a PGCert in Health Professionals Education and gained fellowship of the higher education academy. She them commenced an Academic Clinical Fellowship in Medical Oncology, during which she joined the PCOR group and also completed a PGCert in Health Research (University of Leeds, 2020).

- Geriatric oncology and optimising cancer care and research for older adults and people living with frailty
- Assessment of frailty in routine cancer care
- Use of frailty assessments to support treatment decision-making
